ZINNIAS.....Watercolor

This strange picture was painted last week on a very different paper called, Yuppo paper ...It is rather like photo paper, shinny and smooth..The watercolor paint slips and slides around with little effort..If I was to take a wet paper towel and rub the picture, most of the paint would come off... Lifting the color is quite easy... Will have to try some acrylic paint and see how that works. Thanks for checking my work.....

Special Photos.....

Well, another week without a good painting....However, beauty surrounds us in the form of four lovely arrangements of zinnias from Kathryns garden...That girl not only paints very well, she can grow some awesome flowers..The sunset of the Ruby Mtns. is an added beauty. Each night, each morning and most days, we are in awe of our view of the mtns....Have a fun week.... Kathryns art show is Saturday....Fingers crossed...All will go well..............................

CHARLIE CAT.....Watercolor

This is Charlie..He is one of our three felines...He is very big, sleek and quiet....I painted this earlier this year.. Am posting it now, because our Thursday Plein Air painting day was a failure...However it was a fun day and the fall scenery was wonderful in Lamoille Canyou... I'm not going to let myself get discouraged with plein air painting...Kathryn says..."You have to keep doing it"....ok....Anyway , hope you enjoy this little picture for this weeks entry...Thanks for checking my work............

BUTTERFLY N' CORNFLOWERS....Watercolor

Well, a fun day playing with paints. I started this last week, wasn't happy with it, but with Kathryns and Bills help, it finished out ok....It's like playing pool; I know what I want to do, but it hardly ever turns out that way...Thank goodness for luck.... No matter what, Thursdays are my favorite days....

BEAVER DAM REFLECTIONS....Watercolor

This is a painting and picture of the beaver dam in Lamoille Canyon ..Am trying to work with photos to do my own paintings... OCEAN VIEW......Watercolor

I painted this picture from the photo on the right....Trying to interpret my own pictures....Sometimes it works pretty good and other times it is necessary to use the back of the painting for another picture..Even when the painting turns out awful, there is always a learning experience involved....I will be happy when the cool weather comes and I can spend more time painting... Thanks for checking my work.....

WILD CACTUS ... Watercolor...4 X 6

While in the desert of Utah last year during our THING TRIP, we spotted an area
covered with wild cacti ... If you have ever seen such a sight,
you know the awe of blooming cacti...Some of the blooms start
out deep pink and change to bright yellow...How wonderful natures colors are.....

The Mushroom - Watercolor

Found this 4 year old painting with other pictures...I was lucky to fall
into some good work when I first started...If I hadn't done a few good
paintings at the start, I probably wouldn't be still trying now...
My friend,Kathryn , has this in her house...I am honored!!!

Curious Cow Watercolor 4 X 6

Well I posted this once, but on the good advice of Kathryn, I reposted it after editing the photo... We were walking in the Spring Creek Campground and this cow was very curious about us and the dogs... Bill took the photo and we got out of there......

Calla Lilly - Watercolor & Pen 5 X 8"

Another flower from the catalogue... After my Omaha vacation, I has trouble getting back creating... Kathryn and I were painting with Vyonne at her wonderful studio, and my inspiration level was low..So I used her catalogue.
Sometimes I do (what I call) some Pen Action on the paintings...I like it, but I don't know if it is proper in the art world....
Anyway I have to post something.....

Cornflower - Watercolor 5 X 3

The cornflower is one more in the flower series...I definately need to do more painting.

Lilly - Water color 4 X 4"

Was painting flowers a few weeks ago...Sometimes I use the flower catalogues to study the shapes, colors, etc...Calming paintings..Will post some more....
Fun weekend with the relatives from Oregon..They brought rain with them... Thank you , girls....

Pixie in a Poppy

After a month of no posts, I'm catching up with some paintings. The delay was due to a new high speed hook up. The adventure was more than Bill and I bargained ... Anyway, this was painted at the request of my buddy, Joan...Also for her 60th birthday....It was really fun...first "person" (if you call a pixie a person) I've attemped....I like the bright color.....The picture was based on a "gift bag" designed by Barb T.....

Lexie Cat

This is my friend's cat, Lexie . It is Joan's 60th birthday and I thought she might enjoy this painting.... Lexie is very shy, but while visiting her in Feb. Lexie was playing with her mouse toy....since this is out of character for her, I thought it was worth committing to watercolor and paper.....

Beginner Mtn. Scene 10 X 8 OIL

Well, once again ,Kathryn has expanded my experiences in the wonderful world of art. This Thursday painting day she was kind enough to bring the necessary tools to start painting with oil....How different it is!!!! We had fun and time just flew by....This is the start of a new form for me...I intend to work more on this painting....Will post the result if it is worthy.....Am excited....
THANK YOU, KATHRYN
Very approiate,,,Easter new beginnings,,new painting fun..............
Feel free to critique/////////////////////

Casual Poppies... 4 X 6

As a larger picture this wasn't very pleasing to the eye, but after some cropping, I made it a THANK YOU card. Don't waste the
paper if you can help it....Everyone likes a home made card....
Bill took the picture with the rocks behind the card....Thought it was neat.....

Bright Poppies 5 X 7.5

Last week , on our Thursday paint day, I played around
with poppies....I always like flowers, but painting them with
the correct shadows is a challenge...The work above this one
was the first draft .... I had to cut it down to card size.

Underground Hut 5 X 7.5

This painting was based on a photo taken in Southern England...Am practicing shadows....Looks like I'd better keep practicing.... However, painting is fun even if it is just parctice....

Southwest Sunset 10X8

I painted this picture two years ago. Got lucky with the sky..Using ink seems to work better than using black or indigo paint....Can't seem to get the black dark enough with paint...Fun painting....

Friday, March 7, 2008

Mountain Halo 4X6

The wind blew the snow from the mtns. and formed the Halo effect..... The pine trees were painted using a sponge, cut in the shape of a tree..I like the simplicity of the picture....

Thursday, February 28, 2008

Winter Mesa 4X6

This was a much larger painting..Since I did not like the larger picture, I cropped it to become a 4 X 6 for a card... Watch out friends and relatives ,you may be receiving it in the mail.....

Blue Forest 14X8

'I used this painting for my Christmas Card this year...Again the snow and forest trees are a favorite....Green and blue are MY colors....So many other colors are used in conjunction with green and blue..

Foggie Sierra-Nevada Mtns. 7 X 4 1/2

A photograph taken by Martha Flynn, on the road to Quincy, CA inspired this painting.. Looks like a peaceful place to live, walk or just look at..

Winter Stream 9 1/2 X 12 1/2

I have painted this picture about 4 times...I have enjoyed the works of Joe Garcia...His book Mastering the Watercolor Wash makes painting seem easy.....However, I have found that parctice, practice, and practice still hasn't made it EASY..... FUN, maybe, but not easy yet...The process of using salt at just the right time makes the snow texture.

Farm House At Sunrise 6 1/2X4 1/2

I used some techniques based on instruction books by Zoltan Szabo...Again the simple washes applied with watercolor delight my senses.. Just a few colors can do a fine job....

Daniella's Beauties 12X9

A friend from the Sudan loves elephants...I painted this for her by pouring the paint on the paper after drafting the elephants...the background and tusks were masked...by moving the paint around and then using pen the picture was completed...Fun painting.............
